Zach Smith has secured All-Big 12 Honorable Mention during each of the last two seasons.

LUBBOCK, Texas – Zach Smith will return to the Texas Tech men’s basketball program for his senior season announced Monday.

Smith, a two-time All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection, has started 92 of his 94 career games during his first three seasons with the Red Raiders. He has recorded 890 points, 610 rebounds and 135 blocks. Smith has paced Texas Tech in rebounds and blocks over the last three seasons. His 135 career blocks are second on the program’s all-time list only behind former NBA lottery pick Tony Battie.

Smith piled up 12.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 1.4 assists per game last season. The 7.2 rebounds ranked sixth, while his 50.7 field goal percentage was seventh and 1.4 blocks per game were eighth in the Big 12 rankings, respectively. The Plano native also improved his three-point shooting to a 39.5 percent clip under Chris Beard’s coaching staff in 2016-17.

Smith entered the NBA Draft process over a month ago in order to receive feedback and learn where scouts and coaches would like to see him improve. He had the opportunity to work out for a number of NBA teams as part of the process.

Texas Tech begins the 2017-18 season with a pair of home games against South Alabama (Nov. 10) and Maine (Nov. 14) as part of the regional round of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tipoff Tournament.
