Texas Tech’s third quarter surge isn’t enough to hold onto win

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Women’s Basketball team fell in another heartbreaker to Kansas State, 66-62, on Saturday.

The two teams opened up with a slow first period. K-State then shot 64 percent from the field in the second, to take a 33-24 lead into the half.

Texas Tech opened the second half with a 13-2 run, taking over the lead for the first time in the game. Junior Brittany Brewer led the team, scoring 12 of Tech’s 21 points in the third quarter. The Lady Raiders held K-State to just eight points in the quarter to take a four-point lead into the final 10 minutes.

K-State charged back with a 14-0 run to take a four-point lead with four minutes to play. Tech tried to cut into the Wildcats’ lead, but it wasn’t enough to overcome.

TOP PERFORMERS

Texas Tech: The Lady Raiders had three players reach double figures in scoring for the third time in Big 12 play. Brittany Brewer led the team with 23 points and 11 rebounds for her 10th double double of the season and 13th of her career. Chrislyn Carr followed with 14 points of her own while Erin DeGrate scored 11 points.

K-State: Three Wildcats reached double figures, led by Peyton Williams who scored 18 points, seven rebounds, two assists and three steals. Rachel Ranke followed with 11 points while Kayla Goth scored 10 and was one assist shy of a double double.

  • The Lady Raiders move to 10-7 on the season, 1-5 in Big 12 play.
  • This was the 35th meeting between Texas Tech and K-State. The Lady Raiders move to 13-22 all-time against the Wildcats.
  • The Lady Raiders outrebounded the Wildcats, 38-32.
