Red Raiders Defeat N. Alabama 85-57

Texas Tech Dominates North Alabama in New Year’s Day Game.

(Lubbock) On Monday at United Supermarkets Arena, Texas Tech beat North Alabama 85-57 to extend a six-game winning streak and close out non-conference play with an 11-2 record. Warren Washington scored 10 points, had five assists, and matched a season-high with four blocks. Pop Isaacs scored 21 points to help Texas Tech win.

The Red Raiders demonstrated their strength over the Lions (6-8), where they never trailed and were up by as much as 34 points in a 28-point win; the Red Raiders improved 8-0 at home this season and have won 30 straight non-conference home games in a row. With 30 assists and only eight turnovers, Tech shot 30 for 55 (54.5 percent) from the field and 8 for 20 on 3-pointers.

McCasland explained, “They’re coming out of timeouts and going to practices, and that’s the place where we’ve seen the most growth because they’re talking about winning.” They’re talking about the right play to each other. It’s not just them talking about winning, but how do we win, and that’s a testament to our guys who are all devoted to each other.”

The Red Raiders have been excelling in teamwork, with an average of 15.8 assists per game and only 11.3 turnovers. In fact, they have achieved four games with 20 or more assists. As they enter Big 12 play, Tech is on a six-game winning streak, scoring an average of 78.0 points per game while holding opponents to just 64.5 points. Since their overtime defeat against Butler on November 30th in Indianapolis, the Red Raiders have not lost a game. Their next challenge will be facing the ranked Texas Longhorns as they travel to Austin for their first match-up this season.
